Eiffel Tower - Paris, France
Yet another early start for this day as we awoke around 5am to head to St. Pancras Station. While booking our travels, we like to throw in any last minute destinations so that we can tick a country off of the bucket list. For this trip, that additional place was the City of Love - Paris, France.
It was a short 2.5 hour ride on the train until we arrived in Paris. From there, we grabbed a taxi that would take us on another 45 minute drive in order to take us to the Eiffel Tower (it probably would've been quicker if it wasn't for the traffic, so I recommend planning your itinerary with time to spare).
Finally, we were at one of the most beautiful landmarks in the world. It was my fiancé's first time seeing it in his life, and it had been over ten years since I had last seen it. We wandered around the grounds for a while, admiring and taking pictures before our hunger began to get the better of us. Luckily, Paris has small restaurants scattered all around the city, and we were able to enjoy lunch at a small table outside with view of the Eiffel Tower. We would have loved to go up and into the monument, but with only mere hours to explore, we had to set off on foot to ensure we saw everything we hoped to see in the one day we had. Due to this limitation, we missed my most favorite moments I ever had in Paris, so please be sure to do this yourself on your trip! Once the sun sets and night falls on the city, the Eiffel Tower will sparkle with lights for several minutes. It is a beautiful sight and definitely a must-see!
After lunch, we began walking the streets of Paris on our way to the Arc de Triomphe. This
structure is the center of an enormous round-about with heavy traffic, so you have to find the stairs that lead underground in order to physically get to the monument. After that, we headed off towards the Louvre Museum. At this point it was starting to rain and our feet were aching from hours of walking, but nothing was going to stop us from completing our mission.
The Louvre is a beautiful museum located underground and is full of remarkable art pieces. On this day, we were not going to have the time to explore it in depth, but from what I recall when I visited it years ago, it is definitely worth going inside. The famous Mona Lisa painting
can be found here as well.
We had one more stop to get to before our day was over and we would have to head back towards the train station, and that would be the Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Paris. For this location, no one is currently able to enter the building due to damage from the fire that occurred several years ago. However, Paris authorities are reporting that they are hopeful that tourists will be able to visit the monument again come 2024.
Finally, the sun was beginning to set and we had never felt more exhausted. My fiancé and I walked into a random pub and collapsed in the seats. It is a shame we could not spend more time at each place to explore everything that Paris has to offer, but we were grateful that we were able to see all these places at all. And we always have the best time when we are exploring new cities on our own, even if we get lost along the way sometimes. Perhaps in the future we will be back for more adventure.
