Another Short Story Post - Maui

Hi all! I hope the new year is treating you well! I cannot believe it is nearing the end of February already. We are still in the works of finalizing our next adventure, but our main aim is to travel to Peru sometime later this year! I will be sure to keep you updated on when we have more information!

My next travel destination after the Caribbean cruise was to Maui, Hawaii. This was back in 2014. I traveled there with my family and we stayed at a gorgeous resort. Our days on the trip consisted of mainly relaxing by the beach and finding activities to do around the resort. They even gave us the opportunity to go snorkeling with sea turtles, which is always a must-do if you never have before!

One day, though, we rented this small sketchy car and we drove the Road to Hana. If you have ever heard of this before - I would highly recommend it! It is a long road that takes several hours to complete and it goes around the island. We stopped at different places to hike to see waterfalls (there was even a bamboo forest!) and other beautiful scenery.

My absolute favorite part of the entire trip though was zip-lining over several valleys. We had

gone earlier in the morning, so the rainclouds had just past through. When I went down the first line, though, I ended up going through one of the clouds. The entire moment simply took my breath away. It was my first real zip-lining experience and I will never forget it. This was one of those moments where I really felt alive! (I even got to see the end of a rainbow on the way to the valleys!)

Another major part of our trip was waking up in the mere hours of the morning, when it was still dark out, to drive to the summit of Haleakala mountain. It used to be an active volcano, but now it is a very popular tourist attraction to see the sunrise. The mountain is so tall, it extends above the clouds. Everyone gathers around the one side just to see the sun slowly rise over the endless expanse of clouds - it really is a once in a lifetime experience. I was so focused on seeing this happen that I never did capture any pictures! Waking up super early is definitely tough, but this makes it SO worth it.
